Over the years, Cui has been devoted to traveling along the Silk Road. Her research on the Dunhuang frescoes is reflected in this master series. Symbiotically, the wild animals and artifacts dominate her works while vivid paint strokes breathe fresh life into traditional ornamental pieces. We hope more masterpieces will be created by her; leading us further in to the mysterious oriental world.

“The paintings are just like the person” is the best description of Cui Jie. There are always splendid objects in her paintings, such as blooming flowers, seasonal fruits, and metal containers, old knitted tablecloth with lace, porcelain, old books and calligraphy, just like her own character. These objects, alone with various animals, reflect each other harmoniously and mysteriously. Conflicts, scene exchanges, crossed time and space, and overlapped reality and imagination, all this seems ridiculous yet reasonable, expressing the artist’s yearning for freedom, respect to the nature and life, and pursuit of ancient oriental civilization.

Wielding western realism and oriental decorations, her paintings have a strong sense of integration, organically combining 3D expressions into 2D spaces, making it a unique characteristic of painting. Meanwhile, the “direct expressing method” and her way of pressing the paintbrush are also highlights that make her pictures thick and sophisticated.
